I’m M.D. Creekmore, the original founder of The Survivalist Blog. Years ago, I started the site to share practical preparedness, survival, homesteading, and self-reliance information for ordinary people.
The original website was located at TheSurvivalistBlog.net and eventually became one of the most widely read preparedness websites of its time. Thousands of readers visited the site to learn how to store food, prepare for emergencies, become more self-reliant, and live better without spending a fortune.
I no longer own the original .net address, but I do own TheSurvivalistBlog.com. This site continues the original mission.
Practical Preparedness for Real People
Preparedness does not have to mean building an underground bunker, spending thousands of dollars on equipment, or living in fear.
To me, preparedness means using common sense.
It means keeping enough food and water on hand to get through an emergency. It means knowing how to stay warm during a power outage, cook when the electricity is off, protect your family, grow some of your own food, and handle problems without waiting for someone else to rescue you.
This site focuses on practical information that ordinary people can actually use, including:
- Emergency food and water
- Power outages and backup energy
- Gardening and food preservation
- Bugging in and emergency evacuation
- First aid and medical preparedness
- Home security and situational awareness
- Homesteading and off-grid skills
- Financial preparedness
- Survival gear that is actually useful
- Living better and becoming more independent
The goal is not to prepare for one specific disaster.
The goal is to become more capable, more aware, and less dependent on systems you cannot control.
About M.D. Creekmore
I grew up poor in Appalachia and learned early that there is a big difference between what people want and what they actually need.
Over the years, I have lived close to the land, grown food, raised chickens, preserved food, heated with wood, and spent years studying and practicing preparedness and self-reliance.
I am also the author of several preparedness books, including:
- The Prepper’s Guide to Surviving the End of the World as We Know It
- The Prepared Prepper’s Cookbook
- 31 Days to Survival
My work has also appeared in preparedness and outdoor publications, and I continue to discuss current events, self-reliance, personal freedom, and life in Appalachia through my websites and YouTube channels.
I do not claim to know everything, and I do not believe there is only one correct way to prepare.
I share what I have learned from experience, research, mistakes, and decades of living the preparedness lifestyle.
The Bullet Proof Survivor
Years ago, when I operated the original Survivalist Blog, I created an offline preparedness library called The Bullet Proof Survivor.
It contained practical survival, homesteading, emergency preparedness, and self-reliance information that people could keep and access without depending on the internet.
I have brought that idea back as a physical USB drive.
The new Bullet Proof Survivor contains hundreds of practical files stored in one place. It is designed to give you an offline knowledge library that you can keep with your emergency supplies, browse on your computer, and use even when the internet is unavailable.

Why This Site Exists
The internet has changed considerably since I started the original blog.
Useful information is now buried beneath advertising, algorithms, sponsored content, AI-generated articles, and videos designed mainly to attract clicks.
The Survivalist Blog exists to keep things straightforward.
No complicated theories. No endless fearmongering. No pretending that every news story means the world is ending tomorrow.
Just practical preparedness and self-reliance information for people who want to be ready when times get tough.
Live better. Live cheaper. Survive when times get tough.
